About Grady

Grady County, on the southwest border of Georgia, is the state's 139th county. Created in 1906 from portions of Decatur and Thomas counties, it was named after Henry W. Grady, prominent editor of the Atlanta Constitution and famed southern orator who widely prophesied the "New South."

    The City of Cairo was first chartered as a town in 1870 and as a city in 1906 and is located between Thomasville in Thomas County and Bainbridge in Decatur County.

In 2010, Grady County, Georgia secured a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to construct a 960-acre recreational fishing lake at the confluence of three creeks which combine to form Tired Creek.

Public Notices and Updates

The Grady County Board of Commissioners is advertising for the base and pavement work on Cedar Springs and Gainous Roads. Bids are due March 16th, 2017 at 11:00 AM. The Board of Commissioners expect to award a contract on March 21st, 2017 at 6 PM.

We thank our Road Department for clearing, grubbing, rough grading and installing pipes and vaults. Our skilled crew saved our taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. Without their efforts this project would not have happened.

Grady County Seeks a Concessions Operator at Barber Park. Preference given to those who will operate the most days and hours and who will offer the lowest menu prices. If you are interested please register at the Commissioners’ Office, 250 N Broad Street, Cairo, GA 39828. We require interested parties to register at the county so that if questions arise we can provide answers to all.
