Advertisement For Grady County Elections Supervisor And Voter Registration
This position is responsible for supervising county elections and voter registration processes.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Prepares, conducts, and ensures the accuracy of all elections held in Grady County, City of Cairo, state, and federal elections.
- Directs and supervises full-time, part-time, and seasonal personnel.
- Coordinates elections; ensures the proper filing and posting of notices; ensures adequate facilities, supplies, and equipment for voting precincts; organizes election activities on election nights; completes election records for the Elections Office, Clerk of Court, and Secretary of State; makes arrangements for recounts as required.
- Supervises and participates in absentee and advanced voting processes.
- Ensures compliance with voter registration and election laws.
- Hires and trains poll workers.
- Completes precinct or redistricting changes; locates adequate buildings; publishes notices; notifies voters of changes.
- Attends Board of Elections and Registration meetings; maintains record of minutes and agenda; reports to the Board.
- Ensures that candidates and public officials are provided with proper information on ethics reports; collects reports and fines as required.
- Provides election information to the news media, political parties, and the general public.
- Processes department payroll.
- Prepares the annual operating budget; monitors and controls expenditures.
- Attends required certification classes.
- Performs related duties.
GUIDELINES:
Guidelines include the Georgia Election Code, the Rules of the State Board of Elections, the Ethics in Government Act, Sunshine Laws, county and city ordinances, Board of Elections policies and procedures, and the county employee handbook. These guidelines require judgement, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of varied supervisory and administrative duties. Frequent changes to technology standards contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to supervise the county election process. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of election processes and compliance with all state and federal regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision of assigned full-time, part-time, and temporary staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and level of competency are commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
